Biography

Anthony Reitano has specialized in the environmental field, first as an engineer and later as an attorney, for over 35 years. As an engineer, he addressed environmental issues for a major petrochemical company in North America and Europe. Projects included refinery catalyst handling, waste disposal, reduction and reuse, environmental audits, startup of new facilities, and troubleshooting. He currently leads the firm’s environmental practice group. He has negotiated numerous commercial real estate contracts with regard to environmental issues and remediation agreements, including Brownfields agreements for investigation and remediation of hazardous substances. Mr. Reitano has been and is involved in defending agency enforcement actions, such as RCRA Permitting and Corrective Action and handling of RCRA listed wastes, CAA Title V and HAP issues, including trying such actions before Administrative Law Judges; Superfund actions, including negotiating Administrative Consent Orders and Memorandum of Agreements with state and federal agencies; and has worked with responsible parties to obtain cost-effective remediation objectives both for active sites and Brownfields. He was instrumental in negotiating one of the first United States Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 TSCA risk based cleanup approvals that was issued pursuant to the 1998 TSCA amendments. Mr. Reitano completed negotiating a first-of-its-kind remediation liability transfer agreement on behalf of a chemical company with a remediation contractor and the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and, for another manufacturing client, a unique air pollution reduction agreement. He has handled regulatory matters in states in EPA Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 9, including currently handling a Title V/PSD enforcement action in Region 5.
